Outlook synchronization enables Outlook users to view Dynamics CRM information, including contacts, tasks, phone calls, letters, faxes, appointments, and e-mails, within the Outlook interface. This document describes the client synchronization process that is associated with Update Rollup 7 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 or later (for on-premise deployments) and with Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online November 2009 Service Update or later (for online deployments).
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Dynamics CRM service pack that contains this hotfix.

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.

If you are using Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0, this hotfix contains one Microsoft Dynamics CRM server installation file and three Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Outlook installation files. The Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Outlook file that you must install depends on the version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Outlook that you are running. To determine which version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Outlook that you are running, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
Click Microsoft CRM, and then click Click here for support information.
If you are using Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Microsoft Office Outlook 3.0, the version is 3.0.5300.0. If you are using the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Compatibility Release, which is the compatibility version for Windows Vista and for 2007 Office, the version is 3.0.5300.1361.
Microsoft Dynamics CRM server
If you are using either Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Outlook or Microsoft Dynamics CRM Compatibility Release, you must install the server hotfix that is included in the hotfix download. The file is CRM3.0-KB931270-Server-ENU.exe
Note ENU is the placeholder for the actual language version.
The server hotfix must be installed to maintain file consistency, even though the problem is experienced in the Microsoft Dynamics CRM client. This file consistency is required because of dependencies for other hotfixes.
Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Outlook
If you are using Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Outlook, you must use the following installation file:

Install this hotfix if you are using either the Microsoft Dynamics CRM laptop client or Microsoft CRM desktop client.
Microsoft Dynamics CRM Compatibility Release
If you are using the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Compatibility Release desktop client for Outlook, you must install the CRM3.0c-KB931270-DesktopClient-ENU.msp file. If you are using the Microsoft CRM Compatibility Release laptop client for Outlook, you install the CRM3.0c-KB931270-LaptopClient-ENU.msp file.
An .msp file resembles an .msi executable file.
ENU is the placeholder for the actual language version.
This .msp file is used for installations of Windows Vista and of Microsoft Windows XP. This MSP package installation does not have a user interface wizard. When the hotfix installation runs successfully, the Command Prompt window appears. The window then disappears when the installation succeeds. You receive an error message if there are any problems with the installation.
You must have Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 installed to apply this hotfix.
If you are prompted, restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.
To remove this hotfix from a computer that is running Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 server components or the Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Outlook, use Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. System administrators can use the Spuninst.exe tool to remove this hotfix from a computer that is running Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 server components or the Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Outlook.
The Spuninst.exe tool is located in the %Windir%\$NTUninstallKB931270$\Spuninst folder.
Error message when you try to merge accounts, contacts, or leads in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0: "The logged-on user does not have the appropriate security permissions to view these records or perform the specific action"
Error message when you try to go offline in the Microsoft Dynamics CRM laptop client for Outlook: "Failed move data for entity <EntityName> during action saInsert, countRows=<CountNumber>. Contact your system administrator for assistance"
